A dream campsite in the Country of the Bastides
Le Moulin de David is a magnificent 4-star campsite in Gaugeac, municipality of the Perigord, located in the South of the Dordogne. An exceptional holiday resort, it brings together all of the ingredients for lovers of nature and old buildings for a great holiday...
A campsite where tourists feel good
It is at the heart of the Périgord Pourpre (Purple Périgord) that the Le Moulin de David campsite is located. Oasis of serenity and freshness in the heart of a region where tourism is an art of living, although it is greatly helped by the presence of an important historical and cultural heritage, this establishment is a paradise for family holidays.
Built around a charming and refreshing little river on a green 16-acres property, this campsite has mainly chosen to offer space to its guests. That's the reason why there are only 160 pitches, making le Moulin de David one of the less dense campsites of the Perigord, in regards to the population!
Among these 160 pitches, nearly half are occupied by comfortable and equipped mobile homes able to accommodate 4 to 6 people. The others are occupied by more original accommodation: Caribbean bungalows, Victoria lodges, Niagara lodges and since 2019 Kenya lodges, which are amongst the most top-of-the-range in the market. Accommodated on stilts, these lodges have a remarkable surface area of 46m². Entirely furnished in a vintage spirit, with furniture made from solid wood, this accommodation has a shower room with shower, washbasin, and separate WC. The terrace accommodates an interior/exterior living room with a sofa, 2 pouffes and a low table. Please note the various services included in the rental of the Kenya lodges: beds made on arrival and Wi-Fi in the rentals. The height of luxury: a 2-man hammock and a top-of-the-range gas barbecue, with a grill, a plancha and 2 gas rings - a perfect “summer kitchen”. Moreover, these lodges are harmoniously integrated into the surrounding wooded setting.
The other pitches are reserved for 'real' camping so to speak. Ranging from 80 to 150 m², these pitches are spread over the property, offering the tourists the choice between sunny, fully shaded or half shaded plots.
A perfect family holiday
Although the space and low concentration of facilities and accommodation, in relation to the size of the grounds, provide serenity and welcome luxury to residents when their holiday starts, this does not mean, for a moment, that our guests will get bored.
Quite the contrary, the Moulin de David has all of the necessary facilities to guarantee a quality stay in the Dordogne: swimming areas, sports grounds, games areas, sports and fun leisure activities, evening entertainment and other activities.
There are two swimming areas on the campsite. The first one includes a swimming pool and a paddling pool for the little ones to take their first steps in the water under the watchful eye of their parents. The second is a natural pool of 600 m² nourished by the small river that crosses the campground. Perfectly developed with lawned borders allowing tourists to relax on the grass or to practice different fun activities (e.g. a sandbox for children). It also has two water slides and a giant trampoline installed in the middle of the pond. Its maximum depth is 1.4 m, and several times a week it turns into a water polo field and welcomes various water games organized by the summer team.
Amongst the other facilities of the campsite, we mention the four games areas for children, one for every age group, and the second giant trampoline (set up on land this time!) which meets with overwhelming success amongst the youngest kids every season...
To differentiate itself and offer holidaymakers an unforgettable and unique experience, Le Moulin de David also arranges various activities linked to well-being and to...happiness! You can thus practise Oriental exercises such as Tai-Chi or Qi Gong, take part in sonotherapy and mindfulness meditation, have a massage, go on accompanied hiking trips and others. Children aged 8 to 12 can even take part in workshops exploring Philosophy. Moreover, to the greatest delight of participants, all of these activities are free except for massages.
The Dordogne, a department steeped in history
If a holiday on the Le Moulin de David campsite means relaxing in the middle of nature, it also means discovering the Dordogne, a department steeped in history. The 100 castles, bastides and charming villages found in the Perigord region are all witnesses of this history. Among these, some are nowadays part of the most beautiful villages of France, like Monpazier, located less than 4 kilometres from the campsite.
Monpazier is a famous fortress in an exceptionally well-preserved rectangular form. Built according the will of the King of England when the Aquitaine was still part of the Albion Kingdom, it has resisted the religion wars, which were very violent in the region, and the ravages of time.
Sarlat is also one of the most beautiful villages of France and is less than an hour's drive from le Moulin de David. Its medieval alleys and half-timbered stone houses attract thousands of tourists every year.
South of Sarlat, some 40 kilometres from the campsite, the village of La Roque Gageac is a must-see sight of the Perigord. Crossed by the Dordogne River, it is overhung by a majestic castle and a troglodyte fortress.
Even though we find many and varied historical remains in the Dordogne, the Department also boasts a few important prehistoric sites. The most famous being the cave of Lascaux and its replica Lascaux II, located at 70 kilometres from Gaugeac...
