La Forge Sainte Marie, for a holiday by the water in Champagne
The La Forge Sainte Marie campsite takes its name from the site which it occupies, a former forge dating back to the 18th century running alongside the Le Rongeant river, halfway between Troyes, Nancy and Saint Dizier. Nestling in the middle of nowhere, this 5-star campsite in Haute Marne entices you to rest, relaxation, sharing and pleasure, as a family or with friends, for a weekend or more besides!
An enchanting setting steeped in history
You will be surprised by the charm and the authenticity of this 5-star campsite in Champagne. Some 11 hectares of lush vegetation including oaks more than 200 years old, a river from a natural source widening to form a lake at the heart of the campsite, wild orchids in abundance, and more than around 40 bird species to see.
Camping and caravanning pitches are spacious here, separated by hedges and located close to the river, shaded or semi-shaded by hundred-year-old oak trees. The 2 or 3 bedroom mobile homes are fully equipped, and have a wooden terrace with a garden furniture set. Lastly, 15 gîtes including some with a period fireplace are available for use, during your family stay, each able to accommodate between 2 to 8 persons.
As regards restaurant facilities, “L’Atelier” accommodates you for a romantic dinner amidst the forge’s old buildings. Unless you choose to dine outside in complete simplicity, on the terrace overlooking the lake. Children’s menus are offered, as well as the option of ordering takeaway dishes. You will also be able to make a few purchases, in the site’s grocery.
Heaven for happy holidaymakers since 1995
The old forge, fully renovated, is nowadays home to an indoor water park with a heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi and direct access to a sun-drenched terrace, for perfecting your summer tan. Whilst parents go head to head in pétanque or relax by trout fishing in the Le Rongeant river, children will make new friends on the 4 playgrounds on the campsite, or at the children’s club set aside for those aged 4 to 12.
In addition to swings, climbing walls, ping-pong tables and playgrounds on the campsite, treasure hunts, craft workshops, picnics and water games will be on the programme for the day. Come the evening, there will be songs and games around a campfire, or even cabaret and the dance floor, under the watchful eye and with the help of the activity team.
The Sainte Marie forge campsite offers a bucolic, natural and restful setting for you, your loved ones, your children and even your pets, who are welcome and can make the most of the surrounding hiking trails and life in the great outdoors. A bicycle hire service is on offer on-site, giving you complete freedom to go off to explore the surroundings.
Succumb to the charms of the Haute-Marne region
The Région Champagne Ardenne region offers a multitude of sports, cultural and gastronomic activities. Only a few kilometres from the campsite, you will have the opportunity to discover the undulating landscapes and the picturesque villages of Chaumont, Joinville or Saint Dizier. Your stay will also be the opportunity to explore the city of Troyes, its cathedral, its Modern Art Museum (Musée d'art moderne) and its old medieval town.
You will be able to hike on the Road to Santiago de Compostela which runs alongside the Lac du Der reservoir, and crosses the Parc National de Forêts national park or try the cyclo-rail (cycle rail) at the Chantraines station. A “bike” for 4 people fixed to the rails of a railway track, having a length of 14 kilometres, to ride with friends and in good humour between the Fort Bevaux neolithic site and the Andelot viaduct.
Should you wish to climb trees, book a treetop adventure course as a family at the Accroder activity park. Why not climb even higher by treating yourself to your first glider flight: a 30 minute flight above the lakes, forests and other wonders of the region.
Lastly, you will be able to visit the domaines (vineyards), and sample the exceptional products of the major champagne houses in Reims or Epernay. Alternatively discover the family and independent small-scale producers. You will most certainly return relaxed, enchanted and having had a change of scenery in your stay on the La Forge Sainte Marie campsite.
