Before lingering opposite the cathedral in the main square, you’re recommended to stroll through the alleyways of the village to absorb the surrounding atmosphere. An essential detour, the Palazzo Piccolomini former papal palace abounds in personal effects that belonged to various popes. Do not leave the village without buying a piece of Pecorino, a cheese typical of the surrounding area, often flavoured with herbs.
