A campsite on the waterfront of the Vallée de la Dordogne (Dordogne river valley)...
On the borders of Limousin, Quercy and Auvergne, the Le Château du Gibanel campsite enjoys a multitude of benefits. Its surroundings are thus more pleasant, thanks in particular to the water body resembling a lake which runs alongside it, the result of the confluence of the rivers Doustre and Dordogne, as well as the construction of a dam at a number of locations downstream of the campsite.
Around the campsite, verdant hills make up the beginnings of the Massif Central, offering the Dordogne a new landscape, which is less steep-sided as the deep gorges that it crosses during its passage through Corrèze. Hardly 3 kilometres from the Le Château de Gibanel, the village of Argentat sur Dordogne, with some 3,000 inhabitants, has a multitude of shops and services. Various tourist and cultural activities, such as its market, the salsa festival and barge trips on the river, are organised.
This 4-star campsite of Argentat extends over a surface area of 60 hectares. Itself not liable to flooding, the campsite is dominated by a superb château, the foundations of which go back to the 13th century. Converted during the 17th century, it consists of a main building flanked by 2 high square towers. Having been renovated, the fortress nowadays accommodates the campsite bar.
Dominated by the 13th century château...
At the entrance to the campsite, the former stable now accommodates the campsite reception, as well as flats. With a surface area of 60 m², these can accommodate up to a maximum of 5 people, comprising a living room with a kitchen area, bathroom and bedrooms.
Opposite the château, plots planted with grass and mobile homes await holidaymakers. The former are equipped with an electrical connection, whilst the holiday rentals offer an additional level of comfort with a multitude of facilities, and their terraces each equipped with a garden furniture set.
As regards services, everything is put in place here to ensure the most delightful of stays for those coming to spend a night, a weekend, a week or even longer. Besides the previously mentioned campsite reception and the bar, this Argentat campsite has a grocery with breads and sweet breads and buns, such as brioches, croissants and pains au chocolats, fruit and vegetables and newspapers and magazines. The shop is open during the two months of the high season.
A heaven for enthusiasts of open-air holidays...
On the campsite, there is also a takeaway service, and a launderette with washing machines and tumble dryers, as well as the Wi-Fi network. A multitude of recreational facilities are also present at the Château du Gibanel campsite, such as a delightful aquatic park. This consists of a large heated swimming pool and a children’s paddling pool.
Within a convivial and family-orientated atmosphere, enthusiasts of holidays and leisure in the open air can make the most of a volleyball court, an area for playing boules, ping-pong tables and a gym. The beach laid to lawn, running alongside a large section of the campsite, facilitates the launch of canoes, kayaks, pedalos, and other craft which can be hired on-site.
In the high season, entertainment for children and adults alike is arranged such as pétanque competitions, music concerts and other activities. The very young can make the most of playgrounds to have fun and make friends.
Around the campsite, there are a multitude of tourist attractions to discover. The Corrèze département and the Haute Vallée de la Dordogne conceal a multitude of treasures. From the Lac de Bort les Orgues lake to the Plateau des Millevaches (an upland area) in Limousin taking in the towns of Beaulieu sur Dordogne, Tulle, Uzerche, Brive la Gaillarde, the possibilities of walks and cultural visits are as numerous they are varied!
