Ohai Nazaré Outdoor Resort - a luxury campsite in Nazaré
Close to one of the loveliest seaside resorts in Portugal, also renowned for its surfing spot and its giant waves, the Ohai Nazaré Outdoor Resort campsite is located. The latter is one of the loveliest outdoor establishments in the country, with its water park, sports and recreational facilities, as well as its wide choice of holiday rental accommodation…
A pine forest just a stone’s throw from the seaside
The Ohai Nazaré Outdoor Resort campsite is 2.5 kilometres from Nazaré’s centre and its main beach. An on-site bicycle hire service enables holidaymakers to reach it in less than 5 minutes. The centre of the village of Sítio de Nazaré houses excellent tourist attractions, such as the baroque church containing a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus with dark skin. Legend has it that this was sculpted in Nazareth, hence the name of “Nazaré” for the town! Amongst the town’s other unmissable sites are the Farol da Nazaré lighthouse and the São Miguel Arcanjo (St Michael the Archangel) fort, home to a surf museum.
The grounds occupy a delightful pine forest in ten or so hectares, 2 kilometres from the beach. There are a multitude of pitches here intended to accommodate campers and their tent, their caravan and their camper as required. Some plots enjoy a direct view over the ocean, others are entirely shaded under the pine forest. Some of them are equipped with an electrical connection and an individual bathroom installation with shower, sink and WC.
It is also worth noting that some plots have wooden tipis, able to accommodate two people, as well as a surfboard! This accommodation is perfect for young couples going to Nazaré to make the most of the beaches and the waves.
This top of the range Nazaré campsite also has bungalows and apartments for holiday rental, able to accommodate from 2 to 6 people dependent upon their layout. Please note that animals are welcome both on the pitches and in the bungalows.
A water park in which to cool down...
A top-of-the-range campsite in Portugal, Ohai Nazaré Outdoor Resort makes holidaymakers’ comfort a priority. They can thus make the most of an on-site grocery for their shopping, a bar, a restaurant and a launderette with washing machines and tumble dryers. There is even free Wi-Fi network access for them over the entire site!
It is particularly worth noting that this establishment gives a prominent place to respecting the environment. A comprehensive policy is in place so that its activities have the least negative ecological impact. This in particular includes the use of renewable energies, protecting biodiversity, communal recycling and waste management, as well as other aspects.
As regards recreational facilities, Ohai Nazaré Outdoor Resort offers holidaymakers the chance to do a multitude of sports activities, owing to its petanque court, multisports ground, basketball court and padel tennis court, as well its weights room and gym.
The campsite also has a children’s play area, a reading room, a play room with billiards, table football, arcade games as well as a lovely aquatic park. This comprises a large swimming pool as well as a small pool for children.
Nazaré - a globally known surf spot!
Nazaré is particularly famous for its impressive waves, which can sometimes reach more than 30 metres high! These attract surfers in vast numbers, especially during the winter season, when the wind and swell cause powerful currents in the Nazaré submarine canyon. This has a length of 210 kilometres in the Atlantic Ocean and reaches a depth of 5 kilometres at its lowest point before closing up when it reaches the Promontório do Sítio. The latter is a cliff - the top of which reaches 110 metres above sea level!
On the opposite side from the seaside resorts of the Algarve, Nazaré is a family holiday destination where holidaymakers can make the most of the beach and the sunshine, but also of a rich inland area. It has in particular numerous towns and cities and a multitude of charming villages, examples of such locations including Batalha, Alcobaça, Sao Martinho do Porto, Leiria and of course Peniche. Hardly much further on, the town of Fatima is a significant place of pilgrimage. It is 50 kilometres from Vale Paraiso Naturpark.
Some 40 kilometres from the campsite, the ramparts of the medieval town of Obidos plunge visitors deep into history. Built in 1527, they are extremely well conserved. The fortress and the town are a Mecca for tourists in Portugal. Lastly, also from Nazaré, it proves interesting to explore the Serras de Aire e Candeerios Natural Park
