Le Domaine de Sévenier is strictly speaking not a campsite. Located in Lagorce, in the Ardèche, it is a 5-star village with chalets. In spite of the fact that you cannot put your tent or caravan here, it must be said though that its high-end facilities correspond to the most beautiful campsites in the area...
A village of chalets in the heart of the Vivarais
The history of le Domaine de Sévenier goes back long before it was transformed into a luxury outdoor resort. As a matter of fact, well before the arrival of the first tourists in Lagorce, the place was occupied by a vineyard. Its situation, on the top of a hill, offered a magnificent view onto the surroundings, once all covered with vineyards.
If some flanks are still dotted with grape varieties, the Ardèche garrigue has regained its place on what is now commonly called a little piece of paradise. Even if the ambient peace and quiet may be interrupted by the chirp of crickets, it is nonetheless true that le Domaine de Sévenier remains a haven of peace where you feel good, just five minutes from the entrance to the Ardèche gorges, crowded with tourists...
Characteristic of le Domaine de Sévenier, member of the Les Castels chain, is that this campsite provides no pitches for tents, caravans or campers. It is rather a village of rental chalets, and the property is divided into three different districts. The first of them, superbly exposed in front of the rising sun, is the hamlet "Les Vignes". The second is "Les Faïsses", home to many chalets in the shade of majestic centenary oaks. Finally, the third is "La Colline", with chalets reserved for families or friends staying in large groups!
A small piece of paradise in the sun
These comfortable and totally equipped chalets are perfect holiday homes, settled around perfectly renovated buildings, once part of the former wine estate. They form the heart of the establishment, and it is no coincidence that nearby we find the swimming pool of le Domaine de Sévenier.
Heated off season, this pool has a sunbathing area with many sun loungers. In one of the buildings lining this water park, the restaurant offers residents a menu with local dishes and great wines... directly form the cellar of Domaine de Sévenier!
A stone's throw from the most beautiful attractions in the Ardèche
Located in Lagorce, in the South of the Ardèche, le Domaine de Sévenier is an ideal base for exploring the most beautiful tourist attractions of the Department. Obviously we mention the fabulous gorges of the Ardèche, with its gateway in Vallon Pont d'Arc, a village next to Lagorce.
In this village we also find the Pont d'Arc, a natural arch of 60 meters heigh. It marks the beginning of the trail that many kayakers and canoeists take to navigate down the river and admire the beautiful landscapes, over a dozen of kilometres. Some, such as the Balcony of the Knights Templar or the Madeleine Circus are real postcard sceneries and the pride of the Ardèche.
If the Ardèche gorges are the most frequented site of the Department, there are countless other treasures to discover in the Ardèche. Inhabited since prehistoric times, it boasts an extraordinary heritage that can be found through its prehistoric caves (including the Chauvet Cave), its ancient ruins (Alba la Romaine), its ancestral hamlets and some of these, like Balazuc or Voguë, are among the most beautiful villages of France, or through its medieval castles (Aubenas, Crussol, Rochemaure, Ventadour, etc.).
Another major tourist site in the Ardèche is Mont Gerbier de Joncs. It sees every year several thousands of tourists coming by, wishing to admire the source of the Loire, a tiny trickle of water gushing from the mountain, and flowing more than 1,000 kilometres further into the Atlantic ocean...
