Where sea meets salt marshes
For more than a decade now, the Ile de Ré has been enjoying a new lease of life. Although it was once only inhabited by fishermen and salt producers, Ré has nowadays become one of the most important holiday resorts of Charente Maritime. Among the many outdoor establishments on the island, L'Océan counts certainly as the island's most beautiful and most luxury campsite.
Located at only 50 metres from the sea, this luxury campsite of Ile de Ré enjoys a very attractive situation, at the edge of a seawater pond and salt marshes which have made the reputation of the place.
Here, in the heart of lush landscaped grounds, there are large camping pitches laid to lawn and luxury and well-equipped accommodation, such as the Grand Family Premium mobile home, able to accommodate 6 to 8 people, enjoying a view over the sea. In addition there is a restaurant, a bar, a grocery store, a nursery and a bicycle hire service.
An aquatic complex, which cannot be ignored
The one facility that cannot be ignored by residents of the L'Océan campsite is of course its water park. A surface of 420 m² entirely dedicated to swimming, relaxation and fun. It includes two large heated swimming pools, as well as a heated paddling pool to the delight of the youngest children!
Campsite L'Océan offers many other leisure facilities, including the seawater pond that borders the property, developed for fishermen but also ideal to take paddle board lessons. Amongst the other campsite facilities are also a mini-golf course, tennis courts, a multisports ground and a children’s playground.
Finally, to make your camping holiday as relaxing as possible, L'Océan also boasts a wellness and spa area that extends over almost 300 m²! Besides a hammam, sauna, and Jacuzzi, this area also has three private rooms with high-end facilities to say the least! 'Thalia', a hydro massage bath, 'Biostart', a vapour bubble with an irrigating rain shower bed, and 'Plénitude', a warm water bed. Furthermore, graduated beauty specialists are present to provide guests with various massages, care treatments and beauty tips!
Ré and the Charente Maritime
Amongst the many other advantages that the L'Océan campsite offers holidaymakers, we might also mention its central location, right in the middle of the Ile de Ré. The campsite lies 5 minutes from the centre of La Couarde sur Mer, a fishermen's village. The southern part of this community shows five kilometres of beaches and dunes and in the northern part we find the small port of Le Goizil. This is connected to the ocean by a channel, through the salt marshes which occupy the North of Ile de Ré.
These are one of the treasures of the island, and tourists shouldn't miss the opportunity to walk or bike in this area. One of the other major attractions of Ré is of course the fortified city of Saint Martin en Ré. Its defensive works, namely the Citadel, which walls form a star and encircle the city and the main guardhouse, have been built by Vauban, the famous military engineer of the Sun King (le Roi Soleil). Since 2008 these elements are registered as World Heritage by UNESCO.
Connected to the mainland by a bridge, Ile de Ré is no longer insular, so tourists staying at campsite L'Océan can easily reach the main tourist sights of Charente Maritime, including the famous city of La Rochelle. This city is just on the other side of the bridge with Ile de Ré, so tourists just need to cross it to discover the historical down town developed around the old Port.
