A perfect spot to use as a base to tour between Saint Brieuc and the Cap Fréhel headland
By staying on the Saint Pabu Plage campsite between Erquy and Pléneuf Val André, you’re in both a seaside and harbour town, which entices you to go for a stroll. Walk on the busy quay in the fishing port of Erquy, the fourth largest in France, and enjoy Coquilles Saint-Jacques (scallops with creamy sauce and Gruyère cheese), an icon of local gastronomy, in one of the numerous restaurants on the quays. From Saint Pabu, you can also go to the Cap Fréhel headland, one of the region’s most impressive beauty spots, about 20 kilometres away. The pink sandstone cliffs offer an amazing panorama over the Ile de Bréhat island, Cotentin peninsula and Channel Islands. An opportunity to go hiking along the bay, amongst the surrounding heathland and observe the reserve’s sea birds.
Take advantage of your holiday as a chance for a trip on the Ile de Bréhat island, dubbed the ‘Island of Flowers’. A direct crossing leaves from Erquy and the island can be visited on foot or by bike. A paradise for hikers and refuge for artists, the archipelago has many enthusiasts. With its short heathland, pink granite rocks, in-bloom gardens, old stone houses and the blue of the sea, colour is everywhere! Unmissable!
Lastly, if you wish to visit one of the most iconic resorts of northern Brittany, go even further heading for St Malo. Behind its ramparts, the city of privateers contains a rich heritage of legends and stories. Walk in the alleyways or along the ramparts and see the view over the English Channel and the Rance river. If you feel so inclined, taking the sea bus go to Dinard opposite, a further Breton gem.
