Steiner, a campsite at the gateway to the Dolomites

Close to the town of Bolzano, the gateway to the Dolomites mountain range, the Steiner campsite is located. A top-end campsite and hotel, Steiner offers excellent resort conditions to anyone wishing to take advantage of lovely days to discover the magnificent South Tyrol region.

A campsite amidst vineyards

To the south of Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, the small town of Laives is home to a superb campsite. Steiner, yes that is its name, is a campsite on a human scale, in part surrounded by vineyards and abundantly wooded. Far from the stress of the large cities, and in the main Alpine foothills, this establishment is perfect for families, couples and retired people looking for a holiday resort to rest, but also to relax and visit one of the loveliest regions of northern Italy.

A family establishment, it offers holidaymakers the chance to set up their tent, caravan and camper on lawned pitches. The latter are split into three ranges. The “Maxi Pitch”, the “Pitch Standard Plus” and the “Pitch Standard” ranges. The first is the largest, with an average surface area of 100 m², and the best equipped, with a 10-amp electrical connection and a free connection to the campsite Wi-Fi network.

The on-site holiday rentals take the form of rooms in the eponymous “hotel”, consisting of fitted out barrels and wooden chalets. Apart from the type A and B chalets, all of the other rentals of this South Tyrol campsite are ranked in the glamping category. Ultra-out-of the-ordinary and ultra-cosy, with a design which uses wood to a significant extent to bring them closer to nature, the “Archicabin” rentals on the Steiner campsite surprise many people!

A water park and quality services

Have you a question or a particular need? Holidaymakers can go to the campsite reception at any time of day to take advantage of information, advice or a given service. In addition, Steiner has grocery where you can buy everyday items, fruit and vegetables, dairy products, fresh bread and sweetbreads and buns, such as croissants, brioches and pains au chocolat. You can also get local or organic products such as wine, honey and others.

Steiner also has a restaurant next to the hotel, a pizzeria - takeaway, a television room, a wine cellar and a launderette with washing machines and a tumble dryer. In addition there is a library, a bicycle hire service, and even an open-air play area. In addition to these services are activities for children and adults, such as yoga and aquaerobics classes in the high season.

Aquaerobics sessions take place on the campsite, with the Steiner campsite having its own water park. For a long time this had a single swimming pool, located outdoors, and having a surface area of 200 m². Since 2019, a second pool, both covered and heated, with a surface area of 72 m², has expanded the water park’s offering.

Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol

Holidaymakers staying on the Steiner campsite can simply enjoy its proximity to the city of Bolzano. It takes less than a quarter of an hour by road in the car to get there, and it is also possible to reach this city using public transport from Laives. A bus passes near the campsite every 10 to 15 minutes during the day. The capital of South Tyrol, Bolzano is a city with a significant historic heritage.

Hemmed within a valley surrounded by hills covered in vines, the city of Bolzano has in large part developed thanks to its geographical location, at the gateway to the Dolomites range. Its historic centre, with numerous façades dating back to medieval times, is dominated by the cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The ancient centre also houses many museums.

Amongst these is the Alto Adige Archaeological Museum which, in one of its rooms, contains the body of Ötzi, a naturally mummified “iceman” thought to have lived between 3,300 and 3,255 BC. Also in Bolzano, holidaymakers can visit Maretsh Castle, and close to the city is the famous Roncolo Castle...
