A family campsite in the heart of the countryside in Hourtin
L'Orée du Bois is a perfect campsite to switch off from the hubbub of daily life and treat yourself to an exotic interlude within a wooded and relaxing setting, two and half kilometres from the magnificent Hourtin lake. Having recently joined the Aloa Vacances group, moreover, this establishment has had a multitude of investments in a move upmarket, providing holidaymakers with ever more comfort. Hence it has received its fourth star effective from the 2025 season!
This investment is not yet complete, as from June 2025, two new entirely pedestrian areas will be opened. Even more peaceful and safer being vehicle-free, these districts will consist of modern and comfortable holiday rentals. They will be adding to an already quality, varied option offering. Everything from the “Coco Sweet” furnished tents to the Safari-style canvas bungalows, and the “Evasion”, “Cocoon” or “Loisir” mobile homes, enabling the accommodation of 4-7 people, to the timber chalets.
For lovers of traditional camping, L’Orée du Bois also has a wide selection of pitches for tents, caravans, converted vans and campers. They are offered with or without electricity and can accommodate up to 6 people. Pets are welcome here. As regards services, Wi-Fi connection is free over the entire campsite, communal barbecues and a laundry (with a charge) are available to holidaymakers. For even greater comfort, on-site you can hire sheets and towels, baby equipment and fridges.
Loads of activities to create wonderful memories!
There is no shortage of leisure and fun on this Gironde campsite starting with the entirely new water park with heated swimming pool, play paddling pool and sunbathing terrace within a semi-shaded area. Right nearby, no less than four colourful water slides catch the eye of children and teenagers, lovers of slide descents and thrill-seeking. During the school holidays, an activity leader offers play and sports activities to young children aged 4 to 10.
In July and August, activities are offered to teenagers so they can get to know each other and have fun. They can also meet up over the campsite ping-pong tables, pool table or in the games room! Moreover, L’Orée du Bois has a pétanque and beach volleyball court.
As for catering, the pool bar offers coffees, cocktails and ice creams on the sun-drenched terrace, whilst the snack bar gets you out of cooking, owing to the takeaway service. From April to September, sports and music activities, games, concerts and karaoke sessions are on the programme in the daytime and evening in equal measure. Everyone goes at their own pace, as they wish on this Gironde outdoor establishment!

A stone’s throw from the campsite, the Lac d'Hourtin lake with two kilometres of laid-out beaches, offers you the chance to spend an exceptional day on or by the water. In addition to building sandcastles with your children and swimming in the mild water, you can do stand-up paddle boarding, go on a pedalo or catamaran, before having a picnic in the shade of pine trees or lunching on the terrace in the marina. The most intrepid may learn to kitesurf, whilst the less adventurous can peacefully watch, from the shore, the colourful ballet of sails gliding across the lake.
Make the most of your stay in the Médoc to visit Bordeaux to discover its architectural heritage, gastronomy and walk along the quays running alongside the Garonne river. You can visit the fine arts museum or the Cité du Vin wine museum here but also buy a few things in the rue Sainte Catherine shopping street and take souvenir photos in the vast water mirror (a pool alternating a mirror effect and artificial misting) on the famous Place de la Bourse square.
If you love the beach, go to Hourtin Plage, Carcans Plage or Lacanau, these seaside resorts are famous for their large sandy beaches.
