Your port of call, at the Domaine de Soulac, will be the opportunity to explore the tip of the Médoc, a region renowned for its mild climate and hours of sunshine. You will easily be able to take the ferry, cross the Gironde estuary, and go and admire the architecture from the 50s in the town of Royan, and its magnificent wild coast. Or indeed come across the 1,600 mammals, birds and reptiles at one of the most renowned parks in Europe: the Zoo de La Palmyre zoo.
Maybe you will go out, and conquer the Dune du Pilat. Having climbed the highest sand dune in Europe, you will sample oysters in one of the oyster huts of the fishing town of Arcachon, before strolling into the town of Lège Cap Ferret, discovering its houses on stilts and its Ile aux Oiseaux island. You will end this cheerful day sunbathing, opposite the crystal-clear waters of the Banc d’Arguin. Isn’t it tempting?
Unless you were to go out and explore Bordeaux, a city classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. Its historic monuments, its grand theatre, the Place de la Bourse and its famous cannelés flavoured with rum and vanilla (a cork shaped pastry with a soft middle). Do you enjoy fine wines? Stop at one of the châteaux in the region, and sample a glass of Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac or Saint-Julien.
