Biscarrosse, amongst the sea, lake and forest
The Domaine de la Rive campsite is located in Biscarrosse, a town in the Landes, well known amongst aviation history enthusiasts. Indeed, although the lake is nowadays completely given over to tourism and nautical activities, it was for a long time used as a base for the Latécoère seaplanes owned by Aéropostale and Air France, ensuring the transfer of passengers and mail to America and Africa. Today you can visit in Biscarrosse a museum tracing the history of this industry and its famous characters (like Jean Mermoz, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, etc.).
Although part of the Landes coast, Biscarosse and its lake are however only a few kilometres away from the Arcachon Basin, in the Gironde region. Besides, it's only some 30 km to get from le Domaine de la Rive to the Dune of Pyla. The view from the top of this dune is gorgeous, you can see the whole Bassin d'Arcachon, but also the Landes Forest Landes and the long sandy beaches of this department...
