A dream holiday on the most beautiful campsite in Brittany
More than a simple campsite, le Domaine des Ormes is one of the most luxury outdoor establishments in France. Member of the Les Castels-chain, this exceptional 5-star establishment is located in Epiniac, neighbouring municipality of Dol de Bretagne, between Saint Malo and Mont Saint Michel.
Landscaped park and castle dating back to the 16th century
The history of the Domaine des Ormes goes way back, well before 1977, the year marked by the opening of the campsite. In fact, as from the Middle Ages the place serves as residence for the Bishops of Dol, who built a small castle in the middle of a 250-acres area property.
After the French Revolution, the bishops are forced to leave. Le Domaine des Ormes then passes in the hands of different owners. At the beginning of the last century, it is transformed into a farmhouse, the dependencies of the Castle serving as different parts of the farm.
After many transformations and investments, le Domaine des Ormes is today considered one of the most beautiful campsites in France. The evidence is that the establishment monopolises a great deal of camping and caravanning awards. In addition to the traditional pitches in the heart of a beautiful landscaped park, there are different types of rental accommodations. Among these are convivial, modern and very comfortable mobile homes, but also gîtes, bedrooms, apartments and studios, as well as a range of unusual rentals: hut tree houses, raft houses on the water, and barrels and Ca'huttes, and even luxury timber accommodation such as the Cottages'Huttes and Campings'Huttes which will delight young and old alike. Unusual and high-end, these accommodations are perfect for a glamping stay!
At the Les Ormes campsite, the abundance of property does no harm
If people have such a good time staying at the Domaine des Ormes campsite, it is also because of the quality accommodation and the abundance of facilities and services. Amongst these are no less than two restaurants: the Club House (a restaurant with bistro-style dining for delicacies) and Chez Madeleine (to enjoy delicious pizzas). The campsite has also an ice-cream seller, bars, a discotheque, its own grocery store and a souvenir shop.
Several swimming pools and aquatic complexes await tourists at Les Ormes. The largest and most impressive of these is located under a glass dome of 40 tonnes, 75 metres in diameter and 20 metres high! This impressive facility is home to 2,000 m² of recreational pools and 2,500 m² of sunbathing areas and vegetation. There is a wave pool of 700 m², lagoon, whirlpools, counter-current swimming river, several Jacuzzis, water slides and a mini-paddling pool for baby’s first steps in the water! All with a water and air temperature of 29°C!
The second aquatic park, also heated, is a beautifully landscaped lagoon, with a little bridge, artificial rocks, water games for the little ones and water slides set aside for lovers of gliding! Finally, two swimming pools are located close to the Club-House and a further one at the hotel, for a pleasant and more tranquil swimming experience!
Amongst the other facilities and recreational activities, we should note that the Domaine des Ormes has a families’ club (Club Famille), 18-hole golf course over approximately 7 kilometres, mini-golf course and various sports fields. There is a treetop adventure course, zip line on an infernal tower, cable water-skiing, riding school, climbing wall, pedalo rental service on one of the campsite’s lakes and other facilities!
A perfect situation between Saint Malo and Mont Saint Michel
The Domaine des Ormes campsite is located in the commune of Epiniac, a modest village to the south of Dol de Bretagne. This medieval village, still dominated by one of the oldest cathedrals of France, is located at equal distance from Saint Malo and Mont Saint Michel, the two major tourist sites in the North of the Ille et Vilaine region.
Saint Malo, privateers and trading port, is surrounded by high city walls having resisted multiple English attacks. Behind the walls you find many restaurants and creperies, and its castle houses the city's Museum of History and of Pays Malouin. Around the city centre, forts and fortifications continue to bear the assault of the waves. At low tide, some of them are accessible on foot.
On the other side of the Rance estuary, Dinard is one of the most famous beach resorts of the Breton coastline, coastline which name changes into the Emerald Coast between Saint Malo and Mont Saint Michel. This wonder of humanity is located less than 40 miles from le Domaine des Ormes. Every year, millions of tourists and pilgrims climb the cobblestone streets of this medieval city to reach the summit of the Mont and its Abbey. Up there, you'll have a splendid view on one of the most beautiful bays of the world!
