Although the city of Umag, located at the northern extremity of Croatia, in Istria, has witnessed the most eventful history, it has now become a delightful seaside resort, making the most of its proximity to Slovenia and Italy so as to develop its tourism. Each year, the city thus accommodates a multitude of festive or folk events, as well as holding the Croatia Open Tennis Championships on the ATP World Tour each July.
Some 9 kilometres to the south of this town, a 140-hectare campsite, by the heavenly waters of the Adriatic, nowadays accommodates one of the most incredible campsites in the country. What is its name? The Park Umag. Although the surface area of this tourist complex may impress holidaymakers, what of its multitude of sports and leisure equipment and facilities?
It is indeed a genuine holiday temple, entirely dedicated to relaxation and entertainment, that holidaymakers can discover during their stay in Park Umag. Moreover, they can’t be wrong because each year there are ever increasing numbers coming from across Europe to go to the campsite. Germans, French, English, but also Italians, Austrians, Scandinavians and other nationalities. All of the nations of Europe seem to be represented on this luxury campsite in Croatia which is used, true enough, to receiving an international clientele. The staff are multilingual and everything on-site is translated, as a minimum, into three different languages.

The grounds on which the Park Umag are located, run alongside the Adriatic Sea for nearly 3 kilometres, their main feature being space. Verdant and perfectly maintained, the park comprises 700 plots, a proportion of which are intended to accommodate campers and their tent, caravan or camper van. These pitches, separated from each other by hedges, can, depending upon whether they belong to the “Classic” range or to the “Superior” range, extend to over 80 or 100 m²!
The other plots are now occupied by holiday-rental accommodation. Luxury and well equipped, they comprise mobile homes of which some belong to the “Luxury Homes” range, the most top-of-the-range on the Croatian campsite. Holidaymakers who stay in these can make the most of air conditioning, free Wi-Fi connection, satellite television, having sheets supplied and other facilities. Moreover, these mobile homes are located in a Premium area, which is delightfully in bloom and in the middle of which there is a swimming pool, solely intended for the occupants of this particular area!
Furthermore, on-site, holidaymakers can make the most of a wide range of services, so as spend an excellent holiday in Croatia. On the campsite there is a supermarket, a bakery, a fishmonger’s shop, a medical centre, a souvenir shop, a launderette, a newspaper/magazine stand, a restaurant, a pizzeria and an ice-cream seller. There are even several snack bars, bars and a chill-out café…
Furthermore, this Istria campsite is one of the best equipped for leisure equipment and facilities in Croatia. By staying at the Park Umag, holidaymakers can make the most of a discotheque, a multi-sports ground, a beach volleyball court, a crazy-golf course, 6 tennis courts, areas for playing boules, a fitness trail and even an archery range. To entertain the very young, the Park Umag campsite also has an “adrenaline park” with a climbing wall and a trampoline, ping-pong tables, a video-games area, a games room with foosball, billiards and board games, a television room, several outdoor playgrounds and an inflatable structure. It is also possible to hire bicycles, pedalos, jets skis, and other equipment within the campsite. Diving courses can also be provided from the campsite.

However the most incredible facility of the campsite, no doubt, remains its aquatic park. The campsite is a genuine temple for swimming and idleness, indeed a water play arena. The water play area of the Park Umag campsite stretches over a surface area of nearly 800 m² and comprises an immense swimming pool-lagoon, a paddling pool at the centre of which the replica of Captain Cook’s pirate ship sits enthroned, a Jacuzzi and other equipment. Around the pools, there are numerous sunloungers and parasols available.
Another facility which could not be more enjoyable for holidaymakers is the campsite well-being area, with its massage cubicles in which to relax and feel good!
During the campsite season, sports competitions take place, as well as aquaerobics, yoga, aerobics, soft gym using Pilates techniques and other similar activities. Moreover, several mini-clubs are open, depending upon the time of year. Thus, from mid-June to mid-August, the clubs 8, 13 and 17, which accommodate respectively those aged 5 to 8, 9 to 13 and 14 to 17, are open for your children. From mid-May to mid-September, the Club 4 opens to children aged 8 months to 4 years. Lastly, from mid-May to mid-June and mid-August to mid-September, a mini-club accommodates those aged 5 to 11!
As night falls, meals and themed evenings take place, as well as shows and karaoke nights. Plenty of opportunity to spend warm times having a drink with your family and/or your friends.
Lastly, a stay at the Park Umag campsite is also the chance to discover Croatia and its treasures! Some 15 kilometres south of the campsite is the seaside town of Novigrad, renowned for its beauty, its historic monuments, as well as a multitude of entertainment and other summer festivities. The Savudrija Lighthouse is also a must-see close to Umag, as is the Katoro peninsula, where the ruins of a Roman villa are worth a visit. You can discover the thermal baths, mural paintings, as well as magnificent mosaics. Other remains of the villa are today submerged and you can explore them using a mask and snorkel! Lastly the aquatic park of Istrilandia, one of the most wild in Croatia, is only 11 kilometres from the Park Umag campsite.
