Go and visit the abbey and caves, and see the spectacular view of the remote Baume village and its waterfalls.
The Jura department is also a land of tradition, and first and foremost that of cheese, with its famous Comté. In Thoiria, near the campsite, a traditional Comté cheesemaker is open to visitors, so they can discover Comté being made the old-fashioned way. A unique opportunity to glimpse the secrets of this gem of Jura gastronomy, and stock up from the shop. The region is also home to a further tradition indissociable from woodturning, developed owing to the significant forest areas, that of wooden toy making. Although the workshops have gradually disappeared, a large toy museum remains, in Moirans en Montagne, around 20 kilometres from the campsite.
Finally, by virtue of its location, in France’s eastern extremity, you’ll be at the gateway to Switzerland. Why not go for a walk around Nyons on the shores of the Lac Léman lake and have a boat cruise to reach the delightful village of Yvoire, on the French side. Alternatively, go even further towards Lausanne, a genuine cocktail of nature, architecture and culture.
