Head off to explore Calabria’s gems
The campsite proves a superb starting point to explore the treasures of the Ionian Coast. Just a few minutes’ drive away, the medieval village of Roseto Capo Spulico is home to a network of quaint charming streets, including the legendary Vinella degli Innamorati (‘Lovers’ Lane’), one of the narrowest alleyways in Europe. The renowned Castello Federiciano castle nestles majestically on a rocky headland overlooking the sea. This iconic setting, inextricably linked to Frederick II, Duke of Swabia, Germany and steeped in Knights Templar legends, offers one of the finest views in the region!
Nature lovers can head off to explore Calabria’s coast, as far as the Grotta delle Ninfe (Nymphs’ Cave) in Cerchiara. This pool is fed by a warm natural sulphurous spring, nestling in a canyon around 30 minutes from the campsite. The Ionian Sea, renowned for crystal-clear waters, lends itself perfectly to swimming and long coastal walks.
About an hour from the campsite, the Pollino National Park takes visitors into a world unlike any other! As Italy's largest national park, a UNESCO-designated Global Geopark, it offers spectacular hiking trails in the heart of stunning mountain scenery. History buffs can head for the Sybaris archaeological park including its excavations and museum, an exceptional testament to Magna Graecia, the ancient Greek civilisation which once flourished in present-day Southern Italy and Sicily. Afterwards they’ll return to the peace and dolce vita at the heart of Festora Glamping’s appeal!
