A campsite with a lagoon swimming pool in the Cévennes
In the heart of the Cévennes National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site owing to the Mediterranean agro-pastoral cultural landscape, the La Clémentine campsite is located. This establishment is situated in the village of Cendras. Nestling in a forest, it is only around ten kilometres from Alès, 10 minutes’ drive away. A high-end campsite with all modern conveniences, it has fantastic facilities, such as two aquatic areas. The first is in the form of a magnificent 3,500 m² lagoon, with a white sandy beach running alongside.
The second swimming area consists of two heated swimming pools. The first, family-orientated, is designed for wellness and relaxation, offering the perfect surroundings for families wanting a tranquil swim. The second, a 250 m² swimming pool is for keener athletic swimmers. The ideal place to practice your crawl, breast stroke or for an aqua aerobics and aqua bike class. It is worth noting, there is also a paddling pool in this area for the very young. It enables children to have fun undisturbed in shallow water, under their parents’ watchful eye.
Amongst the many other leisure and sports facilities on this Gard campsite, there is a mini-golf course, multi-sport ground, ping-pong tables, badminton and petanque courts. There is also a bouncy castle, giant trampoline, colourful playground and table football. In July and August, the Sunny-Club opens from Sunday to Friday to accommodate young holidaymakers aged 5 to 12. Here the campsite activity leaders organize painting classes, treasure hunts, Mölkky competitions (Finnish throwing game similar to bowls), and craft activities to raise environmental awareness, such as making a battery recycling container!

The La Clémentine campsite offers a wide variety of holiday rentals, to cater for all tastes and budgets. There are four ranges of mobile homes, chalets and lodge tents: “Confort” (Comfort), “Prestige”, “Luxe” (Luxury) and “Insolite” (Glamping). They can accommodate between 2 to 8 people, and are suitable for couples, families and groups of friends. The “Lodge Sunêlia Luxe Suite” lodge design, air-conditioned, consists of accommodation with an equipped kitchen, three bedrooms and bathroom, as well as a second modular building with separate master bedroom and bathroom. A large shaded, laid out terrace (with sunloungers, garden furniture set and plancha) completes the entirety.
Within this 12 hectare green setting, there is a grocery, bread outlet and snack bar – bar open everyday (May-September). You can sip a cocktail and fruit juices here, eat an ice cream or have a pre-dinner drink on the terrace. To enjoy Cévennes salads, pizzas and burgers made with local produce, go to the “Le C-Véno-L” restaurant. In the high season, themed evenings take place here several times a week: paella, mussels and chips or French Basque-style chicken. The La Clémentine campsite offers unique access to a multitude of iconic tourist activities in the Gard. One of the most popular attractions is the Train à Vapeur des Cévennes steam train, which runs between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard. This tourist train enables visitors to discover the Gardon gorge, and the spectacular views aboard an authentic steam train. The 13.2 kilometre journey crosses viaducts, also going through tunnels, offering a fantastic glimpse into journeys of yesteryear.
Near Cendras, Alès proves a fascinating stop to discover the industrial and mining heritage in the Cévennes. You can also admire the Fort Vauban fortress and Temperas bullring here. A little further away, the city of Nîmes, with a wealth of Gallo-Roman history is certainly worth a visit for the well preserved ancient buildings. The Pont du Gard, a masterpiece of Roman architecture, and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a further must-see in the department. This impressive aqueduct bridge bears witness to Roman civil engineering, offering a magnificent setting for a day’s relaxation and swimming.
For lovers of potholing and geology the Cocalière cave in Courry proves a natural wonder not to be missed. A one-hour guided tour on a safe route, enables you to discover this living cave which is still evolving. All these attractions, combined with numerous outdoor activities available in the Cévennes region, such as hiking, canoeing, mountain biking and river swimming make the La Clémentine campsite a leading holiday resort in the Gard.
