A campsite on the Road to Santiago de Compostela
Crossed by the Road to Santiago de Compostela, the Gers has historically been a land of hospitality. Holidaymakers have nowadays replaced pilgrims in part and can discover, during their stay in this department in south-west France, exceptional landscapes, a way of life and a culture, especially of the gastronomic variety, which is amazingly diverse. Character towns and villages are scattered over the hills, offering lovers of old buildings numerous opportunities for visits and discoveries.
Furthermore, this 4-star Le Gers campsite has been established in the vicinity of one such location. Called La Romieu, this village with a little over 500 inhabitants is one of the most beautiful in the country. Being a significant Village étape (stopover village) on the Via Podiensis, La Romieu is located halfway between Lectoure and Condom, a stopping place on the Road to Santiago de Compostela, which is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This medieval village is dominated by the La Romieu Collegiate Church (the Collegiate Church of St. Peter), also classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and dating back to the 14th century.
The Le Camp de Florence campsite occupies abundantly wooded grounds of 10 hectares overlooking the Gers countryside. Large wooded hedges separate the hundred or so campsite pitches, enabling each one to retain its intimacy. Space is also vital on the plots, contributing to the well-being of holidaymakers, who can count upon surface areas ranging from 100 m² to 250 m² to pitch their tent, or set up their caravan or camper.
Green and spacious pitches
Except for the camping area without demarcated plots, available for ridge tents, all of the other campsite pitches have a 10-amp electrical connection. Depending upon your needs and wants, you can set up on ‘Classique’ (Standard), ‘Grand Confort’ (Luxury) and ‘Premium’ pitches. These pitches are all equipped with a mains water connection and a drainage system for waste water.
For even greater comfort, the Le Camp de Florence also offers holiday rentals taking the form of mobile homes, furnished tents and bedrooms (half-board for one or two nights). These holiday rentals are intended to accommodate from 2 to 6 people, each having a covered terrace with garden furniture, thus enabling you to have your meals in the open air!
The rural setting of this campsite does not stop us offering holidaymakers a wide range of services. At the heart of the grounds an imposing entirely renovated stone building, dating back to the 19th century, houses a restaurant amongst other facilities. Exceptional cuisine is served largely based upon south-west France and Gers specialities, such as foie gras, duck or goose confits and magret de canard (duck-breast fillet) and other dishes.

The former farm also houses a bar (a perfect location to discover the region’s digestifs, such as Armagnac brandy, Floc - a fortified apératif wine - or even Pousse Rapière - a liqueur/sparkling wine cocktail…) as well as a terrace with a snack bar offering dishes to consume on-site or to take away. From May to September the campsite bar is also home to a bakery making available, from the early morning, fresh bread and sweet breads and buns such as brioches, croissants and pains au chocolat.
To relax and have fun, this Gers campsite has a lovely water park. With its large 500 m² swimming pool, heated from May to September, including part which is shallow for the very young to discover water-based delights, it is an undeniable attraction for this establishment, all the more so as it has a mini-water slide and a solarium with sunbeds.
Amongst the other facilities at the Le Camp de Florence campsite there is a football pitch, a beach volleyball court, a basketball court, a tennis court and an area for playing boules. It is worth noting that a small safari park has been laid out within the grounds, and you can for example find alpaca rearing here!
Lastly, there is a children’s club, as well as lively evenings during July and August, completing the list of attractions of this exceptional establishment, a perfect holiday resort for relaxing and discovering the Gers department…
