Whaka Lodge, an unusual, chic and countryside style in the Gers!
Previously called Domaine des Lacs de Gascogne, Whaka Lodge is a truly exotic outdoor establishment in the Gers. Nestling in the heart of a wooded campsite, amidst three large lakes, including one with a beach for swimming, this establishment offers you the chance to stay in unusual rentals, richly decorated in a proudly claimed ethnic style, to make the most of the countryside and its benefits during your stay.
No need to go far to be somewhere else…
Staying on the Whaka Lodge campsite is an experience! No need go far to be somewhere else, a motto which is perfectly fitting for this establishment, located in the Gers countryside, 2 minutes from the village of Seissan. In a land of Bastides (walled towns) and Castelnaux (so-called “new castles” in Occitan), at the heart of the undulating land in Astarac, on the road to Auch in the Pyrenees, Whaka Lodge transports you to the four corners of the world, where the countryside meets the out-of-the-ordinary…
As a couple, a family or with your closest friends, this Gers campsite guarantees that its holidaymakers can completely switch off. The campsite, with a surface area of 12 hectares, is wooded and verdant, thus inviting solace, relaxation and wellness. However, although the countryside serves mainly as the setting, the impression is more modern, more urban, more ethnic even.
The ancient mas (Provençal-style house), which dominates the campsite and the lakes, has been completely renovated. The interior is home to the campsite reception, but also several services, a wine bar, a mini-market, a relaxation area and a catering area. All of these areas have an eclectic décor, mixing the vintage, the chic and the traditional. An assortment of styles perfectly achieved, where the blending of objects both inspires travel and entices daydreaming…
More than a motto, a guarantee of travel
The ethnic style of this campsite is also seen in its holiday rentals. Each of them has a large plot, the real luxury here being the space offered to holidaymakers to play, read or to quite simply indulge in idleness! These comfortable and well-equipped holiday rentals take the form of mobile homes, cottages, wooden chalets and glamping tents. They all have a bathroom and a large terrace offering a panoramic view over the lake.
In addition, here the holiday rental décor has particularly been worked upon. From one holiday rental to another, holidaymakers go on holiday and cross continents. From Africa to the Americas, from Oceania to the Far East, taking in the Indian Sub-continent, all the styles blend and different worlds meet, in a perfect and quasi-romantic harmony. A blend of genres that is lastly seen in the 3 lakeside huts, huts on stilts by the water, with a private Jacuzzi on their large terrace…
Whaka Lodge is a campsite with a lake in the Gers. You thus find here pitches for campers, with a surface area ranging from 120 to 200 m². Some of these pitches have been laid out right by the water, and others close to the beach, the swimming pool and campsite activities. Amongst the activities offered on the campsite, you will be able to take part as a family or on your own in “Do-It-Yourself” workshops, yoga classes, aquaerobics sessions etc. During your stay, children are particularly pampered, with activities being on offer to them during the summer season. Concerts are also on the menu for summer evenings.
An ethnic style for an exotic stay
Staying at the Whaka Lodge campsite, is also an opportunity to go off to explore the Gers department, and its multitude of wonders. Just a stone’s throw from the campsite, the village of Seissan is a bastide (walled town) created by Count Bernard IV in 1288, and the Bernard II abbey. There is a 15th century abbey house, as well as a 12th century square tower. There is village square accommodating a traditional market, and a covered duck and goose market every Friday morning.
The walled towns and markets are themselves amongst the treasures of the Gers. Six villages can take advantage of belonging to the association Plus Beaux Villages de France (the most beautiful villages of France), Fourcès, Sarrant, Montréal du Gers, Lavardens, Larressigle and La Romieu. These and many more, are worth the detour! The authentic markets that these villages organize, enable you to discover succulent local produce such as the farm poultry of the Gers. This includes foie gras (the liver of specially fattened duck or goose), confits (slow-cooked fruits and meats, such as duck and gizzards). Also on the menu might be magret (duck breast fillet) or even Pastis Gascon (Gascony apple tart). The village festivals are also fairly numerous, especially during the summer season!
The Gers is also the famous land of the Musketeers. D’Artagnan was born in the Château de Castelmore castle, in the village of Lupiac, around 50 kilometres from Seissan. Besides its castle, there is also a museum which recounts his life. He was set to become a national hero, when written about by the writer Alexandre Dumas. Moreover, there is a statue of D’Artagnan in Auch, the capital of the Gers department. The town is home to a historical and cultural heritage, such as the magnificent Sainte Marie cathedral and the Museum of the Americas.
