Le Village du Port, the ideal campsite for a getaway nestling in the Lot and Dordogne
In Saint Sozy, between the Lot and Dordogne departments, around 15 kilometres from Rocamadour – one of the region’s most renowned tourist attractions, the Le Village du Port campsite is located. Entirely traffic-free and bathed in the peaceful waters of the Dordogne river, this establishment is a genuine ode to wellness and relaxation…
A unique experience by the Dordogne river
More than just a basic campsite, Le Village du Port may be described as an eco-destination where holidaymakers come to unwind, recharge and enjoy a unique experience, with wellness being paramount! Both committed to protecting the environment and village life, this establishment occupies lush grounds, compact and enticing, by the Dordogne river. Moreover, a lovely pebble beach separates the campsite from the river…
Laid out in an orchard, the camping and caravanning pitches on this establishment are shaded. They extend over surface areas ranging from 100 m² to 140 m², some enjoying mains electricity. For increased comfort, Le Village du Port also offers some glamping holiday rentals, such as Nature, Bivouac and Escapade tents or safari lodges. Lastly, you can hire spacious 70 m² cottages on two levels, opposite the Dordogne river.
Located in the heart of a Natura 2000 area (part of the EU protected areas network), Le Village du Port runs along the Dordogne river for nearly 300 metres. The perfect location for indulging in the delights of swimming, canoeing or fly fishing, in the waters of the cleanest river in France, a listed UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve! On this Saint-Sozy campsite, you can also make the most of a delightful aqua complex to swim, consisting of a large pool, rounded off by a central island and two children's paddling pools.
A holiday by the water in the Lot
On Le Village du Port, lovers of idleness can sunbathe by the river, whilst watching swans glide across the water. For sports lovers, this Lot campsite has padel tennis, volleyball and badminton courts and a basketball hoop. Ping-pong tables are also on hand, as are petanque courts, complete with lighting to play boules until late in the evening! Waymarked hiking paths start from the village and a 10-kilometre trail, through woods and riverbanks, awaits jogging fans in Saint-Sozy.
Young children are free to make the most of the play area with slides, swings and spring-loaded see-saws. They’re also welcome to feed bread to the ponies at the mini farm, and collect eggs from the chickens every Thursday. Wooden games and board games are also available to borrow from reception.
Whilst youngsters have a whale of a time, adults are encouraged to treat themselves to a wellness interlude, during a sauna or balneotherapy session. They may equally be tempted by an Ayurvedic massage, Japanese facial treatment or plant reflexology session. These stress-releasing massages take place in an intimate, tranquil setting, allowing you to deeply relax.
Nature and la dolce vita in Saint Sozy
The Le Village du Port campsite was developed around a farm building, which was completely transformed in 2022. A major refurbishment, prioritizing the use of natural materials, has given prominence to the historic architecture here. Now this old farmhouse has become ‘Chez Sophie’, a local grocery and social hub, where village inhabitants and holidaymakers meet up and talk over an enjoyable drink and a selection of local specialities. Worth noting there are a few outdoor heaters around the building, creating a welcoming atmosphere! Lastly, this rural location offers ‘breakfast‘, ‘pre-dinner‘ and ‘gourmet‘ hampers, as well as local products such as authentic Dordogne wines, spreads and sweet indulgences…
From the campsite, you’re welcome to try two canoe descents down the Dordogne river, the first of these suitable for families. It meanders through the cliffs and pebble beaches, over nine kilometres, for a two-hour boat trip up to the village of Pinsac. The second course spans 18 kilometres, taking you to Souillac, after three and a half hours of vigorous paddling! This route includes magnificent castles perched on the cliffs...
Around the grounds, you can also go climbing and potholing, fly in a microlight or go off to explore exceptional villages in the Dordogne Valley. A holiday on the Le Village du Port campsite is also the chance to visit the medieval village of Rocamadour, discover Sarlat la Canéda, the capital of the Périgord Noir region, or even go down into the bowels of the Earth, with a visit to the famous Gouffre de Padirac underground caverns.
