From the campsite, you can very quickly reach Saumur, where one of the loveliest chateaux in the Loire Valley awaits you! This visit is a must, and from here you’ll be able to admire the magnificent view over the so-called royal river, old town and...the campsite established on the island opposite Saumur! The town holds the “Ville d’Art et d’Histoire” label (indicating exceptional architecture and heritage preservation, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture). It also houses numerous other treasures, including the pre-eminent Cadre Noir, the national equestrian academy, and Musée des Blindés armoured vehicle museum.
From the campsite, you can also quickly reach Doué la Fontaine, around 20 kilometres from Saumur, where Bioparc, one of the best wildlife parks in Europe awaits you! It is located in former coquina limestone quarries, giving this zoo a unique troglodyte nature over 17 hectares. It features more than 1,900 animals from 130 different species. Just a stone’s throw from Doué la Fontaine, Montreuil Bellay houses an impressive fortress dating back to the 9th century.
