A perfect location opposite Noirmoutier
Nestling in the Forêt Domaniale des Pays de Monts national forest, La Grande Côte is a wooded and in bloom campsite, which accommodates holidaymakers looking for countryside and serenity. Located around the town of La Barre de Monts, opposite the Ile de Noirmoutier island, it has the advantage of enjoying direct access to the coast. You only have to take a short footpath, this even going to Fromentine, the coastal district of La Barre de Monts, with its lovely beach and ferry terminal enabling you to go to the other island of the Vendée coast: the Ile d’Yeu.
The La Grande Côte campsite has holiday rentals and pitches. The holiday rentals take the form of cottages, chalets, lodges and furnished tents. The cottages in the Premium range are the most high-end. They can accommodate, dependent upon their configuration, from 4 to 6 people, having two or three bedrooms. Moreover they have air conditioning, as well as numerous amenities, such as a television, a garden furniture set and even sunbeds.
Holidaymakers preferring to stay in canvas tents, caravans or camper vans are also welcome on this La Barre de Monts campsite! Lovely plots, shaded by cypress and pine trees are available. A perfect site to go off to explore the Vendée islands
Around the La Grande Côte campsite, there is no shortage of exceptional countryside and tourist attractions. The Ile de Noirmoutier island is the best such example. This is accessible via the Pont de Noirmoutier road bridge, adjoining the campsite, but equally by the no less famous Passage du Gois natural causeway. This route with a 4.2 kilometre length only enables passage at low tide. At high tide, the road is entirely covered by water! Watch that you keep a close eye on the tide times before venturing out here!
Leaving the Gare Maritime de Fromentine ferry terminal, it is also possible to take the ferry which enables you to go the Ile d’Yeu island. After a crossing of around an hour, land is finally in view and you are able to discover the beauty of this island, by having a bike ride for a day. Amongst fine sandy beaches, small wild creeks and buildings of yesteryear, the Ile d’Yeu island saves you delightful surprises.
The charming seaside resort of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie abounds in treasures to discover. For cycling enthusiasts, the town offers a multitude of routes. Riding amongst the forests, the sea and the marshes, the scenery changes from one backdrop to another with each pedal stroke!
