A stay in Ars en Ré, the gem of the Charente Maritime
The gem of the Île de Ré, the village of Ars en Ré, accommodates a lovely small campsite. It is called Les Dunes and is within the vicinity of the forest accommodating the site of the Kora Karola artillery battery, one of the most famous tourist sites of the Mur de l’Atlantique (part of a system of fortifications built by the Germans in World War II) in Charente Maritime. By crossing this small forest, you will be able to rapidly access on foot, and entirely safely, a superb sandy beach.
Although you can swim here, this magnificent beach also offers, at low tide, a rocky landscape which is absolutely ideal for shore fishing. With a bucket and a landing net, children are always enthusiastic at the idea of going fishing for crabs and clams!
This campsite, on the Île de Ré, offers you a wide selection of mobile homes and pitches to accommodate you. Amongst the holiday rentals, the Premium mobile homes are without doubt the most high-end. Having two bedrooms and a surface area of 40 m², they can accommodate up to 5 people.
A campsite with a heated swimming pool by the sea
A campsite on a human scale, Les Dunes still has quality sports and recreational facilities. During your stay you can, for example, make the most of its large heated swimming pool. In the vicinity of this, a small pool enables babies and children, of an early age, to get their first taste of water! Around the swimming pool, there is a sunbathing area and numerous sunloungers, to enable you to rest and get a tan. Although the heated swimming pool accommodates various activities, including aquaerobics sessions and water games, the most sports-orientated will find a multitude of cardio training equipment in the gym.
Les Dunes also organises various family activities and entertainment, in the summer season. For example an activity leader offers children the chance to take part in team games, mini-Olympiads, breakfasts on the beach etc. Once a week, evening entertainment is also planned. To take part, you are invited to go the snack bar on the campsite!
On the Île de Ré, the preferred means of transport, as much for residents as holidaymakers, is the bike. If you wish to cover the area surrounding the campsite, without having to transport your own bicycles, note that the campsite has put in place a bicycle hire service right on the campsite! Thus, it is possible for adults and children to hire bikes for a half-day, a day or even a week.
To make the most of the wonders of the Île de Ré
The village of Ars en Ré is a leading tourist destination on the Île de Ré. A genuine gem, the village is classified as amongst the “Plus Beaux Villages de France” (“Loveliest Villages in France”). There is no doubt that by staying at the Les Dunes campsite, you will also have the chance to fall under the spell of its small white houses with green shutters, its cobbled and in-bloom alleys, its church in Romanesque and Gothic style, and its fishing port and marina, opening on to a magnificent bay of 800 hectares.
During your stay in Ars en Ré, you will also be able to go off and explore the other wonders of the Île de Ré. For this, what better than a bike. The island is sprinkled with countless cycle paths, and these allow access to all tourist sites on Ré, whilst discovering its fabulous landscapes, such as its wild coast, its sandy beaches and its salt marshes.
Amongst the major must-see attractions on Ré, we should mention the Phare des Baleines lighthouse, located on the western headland of the island, in the town of Saint Clément des Baleines. We might also mention the town of Saint Martin de Ré, completely fortified by Vauban, and nowadays classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lastly, the Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Lilleau de Niges national nature reserve (a protected area), located in the heart of the salt marshes, is an absolute natural paradise!
