Les Embruns d’Oléron - a 4-star campsite in Château d'Oléron
In the heart of oyster beds, typical of the island of Oléron, within the Domaine de Montravail area, in the town of Château d'Oléron, the Les Embruns d’Oléron campsite is located. The setting and natural surroundings of this outdoor establishment, rated 4 star, make this one of the most exceptional resorts on the Charente coast…
Luxury campsite…
Located less than one kilometre from the Château d'Oléron town centre, a walled town opposite the mainland, Les Embruns d'Oléron extends over 21 hectare grounds, laid out in the middle of nowhere. The campsite is in the heart of oyster beds which have made, and continue to make, the reputation of this island in Charente Maritime. The campsite’s 265 pitches are spread over part of the grounds. The other area is set aside for leisure facilities, and in particular the equestrian activities on the establishment.
A little more than 120 pitches are reserved for campers, whether they stay in a tent, caravan or camper. These plots are spacious to say the least, with an average surface area of 100 m². Separated from each other by landscaped hedges, they are regularly maintained and have a connection to the electricity network.
The rest of the pitches are nowadays occupied by very high quality rentals, whether canvas bungalows, chalets or mobile homes. Moreover, you can also treat yourself to a glamping stay on this 4-star campsite in Oléron, as it has several caravans, able to accommodate up to 4 people, each being in two separate bedrooms. Nevertheless, the most delightful accommodation is the fisherman's hut, with a breathtaking view over the surrounding oyster beds. With three bedrooms accommodating up to 6 people, it offers ideal conditions for a large family or group of friends.
Amongst the shops and services on the Les Embruns d’Oléron campsite, there is “Le Bistro” the campsite's bar, having one of its terraces located opposite the swimming pool whilst the other faces the riding centre. The campsite’s restaurant is called "Le Resto”. It serves equally delicious and varied dishes.
...and the riding centre...
As a luxury campsite would be nothing without its water park, Les Embruns d’Oléron has a superb swimming area on hand for guests. This is entirely heated, with a 200 m² swimming pool and lazy river for the very young. With lifeguards during the summer season, this water park also accommodates standard aquaerobics sessions and water polo matches!
Besides this swimming area, the other strong attraction of this luxury campsite in Oléron takes the form of the equestrian centre. Within its indoor ring, the 3,500 m² sand arena, fields and horse paddocks, various lessons and courses are provided for young and old alike. The campsite's riding instructors, all state graduates, also offer trips in the marshes or on the beach, through the vineyards or in the heart of the forest.
In addition to the two above facilities, the campsite also has a tennis court, multi-sports ground, pétanque court, children’s play area and ping-pong tables. There are also activities and kids clubs on the Les Embruns d’Oléron campsite.
…in the Oléron salt marshes
Les Embruns d’Oléron enjoys an idyllic situation on the island of Oléron. Located on the south-east of the island, it allows residents to easily travel to the mainland, via the free bridge which links Oléron to Marennes. Once across the Atlantic Ocean separating the two, they have ample time to discover the Charente coast, with the beach resorts of Royan and La Palmyre to the south, or the town of Rochefort and city of La Rochelle to the north, both having the designation “Ville d’Art et d’Histoire” (for their heritage and architecture).
Once a naval dockyard town, Rochefort contains a highly significant historical heritage, such as the Royal ropery (Corderie Royale) or the slipway used for the construction of a replica of Hermione, a famous frigate used by the Marquis de La Fayette. A strategic location in more than one respect, the entrance to the navel dockyard of Rochefort and the Charente estuary were protected by many fortresses and citadels. The most famous of these always attracts the attention of holidaymakers going to the island of Oleron. The Fort Boyard fortress, yes, you’ll have recognised it, appears to float as if by magic, between the Oléron and Aix islands…
Lovers of old buildings staying on the Les Embruns d’Oléron campsite can also enjoy the winding fortifications in the town of Château d'Oléron, whose town centre is located 800 metres from the campsite entrance. Built by Vauban, these fortifications are typical of the military architecture of that time.
You can go on walking, cycling or horse riding trips to discover, amongst the island’s other treasures, its wild coast, kilometres of fine sandy beaches, wonderful coastal scenery and vineyards planted in the heart of it!
