A countryside campsite with direct beach access
The Camping Club La Côte Sauvage perhaps enjoys one of the loveliest settings in the region. Laid out under the maritime pines of the La Palmyre forest in the village of Les Mathes, it is located on Pointe de la Coubre, a headland located to the south-west of the Arvert peninsula in the Charente Maritime department.
This is home to the tallest lighthouse on the Charente coast, the Phare de la Coubre, 64 metres high and whose origins date back to 1905, which is today classified as a historic monument (with the “Monument Historique” designation). It houses a museum tracing the history and way of life in the lighthouses of the Gironde estuary. The Pointe de la Coubre is also adjacent to a beach renowned for being one of the wildest on this section of coast, and one of the best surf spots in the area.
