A countryside campsite with direct beach access
The Camping Club La Côte Sauvage perhaps enjoys one of the loveliest settings in the region. Laid out under the maritime pines of the La Palmyre forest in the village of Les Mathes, it is located on Pointe de la Coubre, a headland located to the south-west of the Arvert peninsula in the Charente Maritime department.
This is home to the tallest lighthouse on the Charente coast, the Phare de la Coubre, 64 metres high and whose origins date back to 1905, which is today classified as a historic monument (with the “Monument Historique” designation). It houses a museum tracing the history and way of life in the lighthouses of the Gironde estuary. The Pointe de la Coubre is also adjacent to a beach renowned for being one of the wildest on this section of coast, and one of the best surf spots in the area.
Holidaymakers staying at the Camping Club La Côte Sauvage can look to 2 lovely beaches for swimming, the Phare de la Coubre beach, as well as the Bonne Anse beach, both adjoining the campsite. The grounds within which this campsite nestles extend over 15.5 hectares of abundantly wooded land, from which numerous hiking paths and other cycle tracks laid out in the heart of the forest start from…
A holiday resort between the Atlantique (Atlantic) and the Gironde estuary areas
This 4-star La Palmyre Camping Club campsite has 400 pitches, half of them being plots intended to accommodate campers and their tent, caravan or camper, whilst the other half are nowadays occupied by holiday rentals. Spacious, the large majority of these pitches are shaded and separated from each other by greenery.
Modern and comfortable, the mobile homes have various layouts and capacities, so that everyone can find the ideal accommodation, which best meets their needs. A top-end campsite in Charente Maritime, the MS Club La Côte Sauvage moreover offers a multitude of services on-site, such as a grocery, a bar, an ice-cream seller, a restaurant, a launderette and others.
Between Atlantique and Gironde, this establishment also offers multiple sports and/or leisure facilities, including a superb water park. A water park which does not fail to meet holidaymakers’ expectations, since they can make the most of a large swimming pool, a lagoon, a splash pad, water slides, hydromassage benches and a whirlpool bath.
Services, leisure and activities in abundance!
Amongst the other facilities on-site, a children’s outdoor play area, a petanque court, ping-pong tables, a mini-golf course, a gym and even a games room, enable holidaymakers to have fun during their stay at La Palmyre.
Moreover the teams at the Camping Club La Côte Sauvage, during the high season, organise numerous activities and forms of entertainment for children and teenagers alike, within the mini-clubs. They also arrange activities for adults, such as aquaerobics sessions or evening shows.
Taking advantage of the geographical location of the campsite in Les Mathes, holidaymakers can, if they wish to, discover the region’s tourist treasures. For example, with its 1,600 animals, the Zoo de la Palmyre zoo, situated a few kilometres from the campsite is the most-visited private zoo in France. The Île d’Oléron island, the Fort Louvois fortress, the seaside villas of the 19th century in Royan and the Arsenal de Rochefort (a historic naval base and dockyard) are all tourist attractions to visit during a stay at the campsite in the La Palmyre region.
