The heart of this 5-star campsite in the Charente Maritime is home to many sports and leisure facilities, starting with the heated water park of 2,000 m². Les Mathes La Palmyre, at the heart of multiple trips
Located in the town of Les Mathes, particularly La Palmyre, the tourist district, is mentioned when speaking about the town. This area indeed concentrates most on activities and shops related to your holiday. Reached in around ten minutes from the campsite, this seaside resort is also famous for its zoo.
The Zoo de La Palmyre is one of the most famous in Europe, and one of the most visited in France. Home to more than 1,600 animals, every year the zoo welcomes more than 750,000 visitors in the 18-hectare park. South of La Palmyre, after having gone through the village of Saint Palais sur Mer, the town of Royan offers significant heritage to tourists. You can also take the ferry to cross the Gironde estuary and reach the Médoc.
Most of the tourist sights of the Charente Maritime are situated north of L'Orée du Bois. For example, fifteen kilometres from the campsite, you can visit the island of Oléron, the second largest island in metropolitan France after Corsica. Between Oléron and Fouras, it is possible to catch sight of Fort Boyard, an ancient fortress protecting the arsenal of Rochefort, well known by fans of the eponymous television game.
Finally, you cannot stay on the L'Orée du Bois campsite without visiting La Rochelle. The aquarium ranks among the city’s top attractions. It is indeed considered one of the most beautiful aquariums in France!
