Séquoia Parc - a 5 star family camping village just a stone’s throw from Oléron
High-end camping and caravanning is really the best definition of the Séquoia Parc campsite, in Charente Maritime. Considered as one of the most beautiful and most luxurious campsites in France, this camping village, located between La Rochelle and Royan, close to Marennes and the Ile d'Oléron island, welcomes its guests in entirely optimal conditions.
A campsite full of history
In 1852, the Château de la Josephtrie castle was built on a vast property, which is nowadays a 5-star luxury family campsite. An imposing construction surrounded by farms and agrarian buildings. At that time, the courtyard of the castle was occupied by an imposing tree: a sequoia. Even if it doesn't exist any more, its memory remains intact since the name of the campsite comes from this tree..
In 1997, after many years of effort and patience, the campsite came into being and the result is now, in all respects, impressive. Tourists can enjoy a wooded and green 45-hectare property, camp on spacious and equipped pitches ranging from 120 m² to 140 m², or even stay in modern and luxury rental accommodation.
Séquoia Parc has highly delightful cottages and chalets, with a total of 640 plots, including 400 holiday rentals. Moreover, Premium mobile homes offer their guests exceptional comfort and quality. Although all of them merit staying in, we rank in priority the new pedestrian village, “Happy Kids”, specially set aside for families with young children, and including cottages which are amongst the most modern and comfortable in the market, but also the village "Taos Château Chic", located as its name indicates, just a stone’s throw from the castle. The design and facilities of the cottages located there make them genuine luxury and unusual accommodation.
An exceptional property where luxury goes hand in hand with nature
If the accommodation is quality and the pitches comfortable, what can we say then about the facilities? The buildings, once home to farms and their workforce, have these days been renovated and converted into shops, a bar, a restaurant, a stage for shows and a tourist information point around a magnificent camping village square. This is the perfect place to get together as a family or with friends for a drink, and to enjoy shows come the evening. Reception and the children’s club are also located here.
Nearby, is the water park, which is the real heart of the campsite. With more than 2,000 m² of play and water areas, this is the largest complex in the department. There are no less than four pools, of which three are heated. Besides a whirlpool, this Aquaparc (water park) also has an artificial river of 110 metres, as well as different water slides for children's, but also parents', greatest pleasure.
The new wellness centre on the campsite “Les Brises Wellness & Fitness” has recently opened. This wellness area consists of an indoor swimming pool with a balneotherapy area, a sauna, a hammam, a sensorial shower, a private whirlpool bath, a wellness area with three massage cubicles, including one massage area for two people. There is also a herbal tea room, a gym with the latest cardio and body-building equipment, as well as a sunbathing area of 800 m² on the building’s roof terrace, with numerous sunbeds set up.
Lastly, there are many facilities available to very young holidaymakers at the Séquoia Parc campsite. In addition to the playgrounds and multiple sports pitches, this establishment also has an equestrian centre, as well as two children's clubs: the "minibou" offering fun activities for 4 to 6 year olds, and the "ibou” club which takes care of 7 to 13 year olds.
Finally, during the day and the evening, the many varied activities are for everybody. From water polo tournaments to concerts and jeu-de-boules games, there is something for everyone!
Under the spell of Charente Maritime
Tourists who come to spend their holiday on the Séquoia Parc campsite cannot expect a better location to explore the treasures of Charente Maritime. This establishment, located in Saint-Just Luzac, is as a matter of fact 7 kilometres from Marennes Plage, a seaside resort located between the Ile d'Oléron island, Rochefort and Royan.
Numerous culinary specialities are also worth discovering, such as the famous oysters of Marennes Oléron. The Cité de l’Huître (oyster farm and museum) enables you to discover between marshes and oyster huts, the world of oyster farming.
Located inland, a few kilometres from the coast, the town of Rochefort has long been considered as one of France’s most important ports. This town consequently has many historical buildings to visit, such as the famous Corderie Royale (Royal Ropery - historically ropes were produced here) or even the Musée de la Marine (National Marine Museum), where the ship Hermione is moored. This is an exact replica of the frigate belonging to the Marquis de La Fayette.
North of Rochefort, taking the direction of La Rochelle, it is impossible to miss Fort Boyard, popularized by a famous television game and located opposite the town of Fouras... Before serving as a prison, this fort was part of a fortification system to protect the Charente Coast against English assaults, aiming in particular La Rochelle, where the entrance to the harbour is still guarded by two high towers.
Lastly, make the most of the sunshine on the magnificent beaches of the Atlantic coast also called the “Côte de beauté” (in honour of its natural beauty) comprising six must-see coastal resorts including Royan. Go out and explore the Forêt de la Coubre forest by bike, thanks to the Vélodyssée, an entirely marked out itinerary.
