An exceptional site
In the heart of an exceptional natural site, a meander hollowed out and formed by the Tardoire river flowing into Le Chambon, a district in the village of Eymouthiers, in the Charente, the Les Gorges du Chambon campsite is located. This establishment is one of the loveliest in the Charente department.
This luxury holiday resort is located less than 40 kilometres (circa 25 miles) to the east of Angoulême, and over 70 kilometres (40 miles) to the west of Limoges and to north of Périgueux. Enjoying a delightful setting and lush countryside, the site entices you for idleness and relaxation, all the more so as the surface area of the grounds, 28 hectares, contrasts with the 100 or so camping pitches on a human scale!
Les Gorges du Chambon offers you the chance for a luxury stay in the peace and quiet and tranquillity of a lovely tourist region, with many hidden treasures! For example, the Charente is the French department with the largest number of Romanesque buildings. It also offers a multitude of prehistoric caves, medieval castles and various Roman thermal baths.
The variety of landscapes is also significant in Charente. From the vineyards of Cognac to the deep forests of Horte-Tardoire, to the small valleys of the so-called “Suisse Charentaise” (the Chambon river valley resembling Switzerland), tourist attractions abound!
For a holiday in the middle of nowhere
Running alongside the river, the 28 hectares of grassland and woods comprising the grounds was, in the past, part of an old 18th century Charente farm. Completely transformed and carefully renovated, the various farm buildings are now occupied by reception, a grocery, fresh bread outlet and campsite bar restaurant, which offers campers various dishes and menus, including salads and local specialities!
The Les Gorges du Chambon campsite opened more than thirty years ago and changed hands several times, before being left abandoned and reopening in 1999. Ever since the campsite has continuously moved upmarket, now offering holidaymakers excellent accommodation and stay conditions.
Some of the campsite plots are occupied by comfortable holiday rentals. Mobile homes, chalets, and Ciela Nature tents are spread out as much as possible, to avoid being overlooked, and offering residents the luxury of space!
Between Charente and the Périgord Vert (Green Périgord)
Amongst the various equipment and facilities on the campsite, there is a lovely water park with heated swimming pool, safe paddling pool and water slides! 150 metres from the leading mobile homes, a small natural, shaded beach enables you to swim in the river, go fishing or even set sail in your canoe to go down the Tardoire river bed!
We should also mention the children’s playground, mini golf course, tennis court and beach volleyball court. In the immediate vicinity of this 4-star campsite in Charente, an outdoor activity centre enables you to do a multitude of outdoor sports activities.
Lastly, it is also worth knowing this establishment organizes a multitude of leisure and/or sports activities during the high season, for young and old alike! Moreover, a mini club welcomes children aged 5-12.
