Go for a walk on the boardwalk (‘les planches’), by the beach and see the best known parasols in the world and the Art Deco beach huts, bearing the names of famous actors. They have nowadays gained ‘Monument Historique’ status, recognizing their historic and architectural significance. Next go over the Pont des Belges bridge, and you’ll be in Trouville, a fishing town with a more relaxed atmosphere. Have a walk round its fishing port, fabulous fish market and don’t miss a visit to the Villa Montebello museum, to discover the region’s seaside art and history.
Around 15 kilometres further north, another must-see gem is on offer to you: Honfleur. Here there are picturesque alleyways, narrow houses, small shops and the Vieux-Bassin (Old Dock) lined with restaurants. Hence the town, which became a ‘town of painters’ and Impressionism, has preserved both an authenticity and charm which makes it irresistible. Don’t delay in strolling through the alleyways, visiting the art galleries and, if you’re travelling with children, take them to Naturospace, a glasshouse with tropical butterflies and birds, which will put stars in their eyes...
Lastly, if you wish to get to know the heart of Normandy, go off and travel the countryside of the Pays d'Auge area, exploring its loveliest villages, such as Beuvron or Beaumont en Auge and make the most of the chance to enjoy farm cider and local Calvados.
