A luxury campsite just a stone’s throw from the Verdon gorges
Between the Alps and Provence nestles a dream campsite. What is its name? Les Collines de Castellane, a top-of-the-range campsite, a member of the RCN group and which occupies, as its name indicates, grounds laid out on a hill just a few minutes by road from the village of Castellane. The smallest sub-prefecture in France, with the “Villages et Cités de Caractère“ (“Character Villages and Towns”) label, this commune is located halfway between the Lac de Castillon and the Lac de Sainte Croix, two artificial lakes laid out on the Verdon river course.
This river is one of the loveliest in France, in particular owing to the unique colour of its waters. During its passage through inland Haute Provence, it has hollowed out within the relief narrow gorges, of which the sides sometimes reach a depth of 700 metres! A paradise for canoeists, these gorges can also be discovered on foot or by car, the ridge road offering a multitude of exceptional views over the water course.
The Les Collines de Castellane campsite extends over lush and natural grounds of several hectares. Under the trees nestle spacious pitches, able to accommodate a tent, a caravan or a camper. These pitches have been laid out on terraces, which enable the majority of them to offer their occupants a panoramic view over the surrounding area.
An undulating and natural landscape for a holiday setting...
This establishment also has a large range of holiday rentals, comfortable accommodation taking the form of mobile homes but also safari lodges. These are tents laid out on piles to retain the charm of traditional camping, with the comfort of designer and modern accommodation!
At 1,000 metres in altitude, the air is pure and there is a multitude of services at Les Collines de Castellane. So that holidaymakers want for nothing during their stay in Castellane, this establishment has a wide variety of services, amongst which there is a restaurant, a bar, a snack bar, a pizzeria, a grocery, a library, a service for the hire of fridges, as well as Wi-Fi coverage in the centre of the campsite.
Just as with the list of services offered by this luxury Verdon campsite, its facilities are as diverse as they are numerous. All holidaymakers can make the most of a football pitch, a basketball and volleyball court, a pétanque court, ping pong tables, and other amenities. Children are also able to use several play areas on the site to have so much fun!
Provence, it looks like the south!
There are 2 other major play facilities on this establishment. The first is an aquatic park, comprised of a large heated swimming pool, a small pool and a three lane multi slide. The second is a treetop adventure course. Rope bridges and 5 giant Tyrolean traverses enable children and adults in equal measure to have their dose of thrill-seeking on a course with a length of 160 metres.
From May until September, the campsite accommodates a team of activity leaders on site, whose main task is to organise throughout the day, but also on certain evenings of the week, activities and entertainment intended for all family members, parents as much as children. Sports, games, workshops, wild evenings, everyone can make the most of a menu of colourful recreational activities!
The Les Collines de Castellane campsite proves to be a perfect spot for all holidaymakers wishing to go out and explore Provence. This region conceals a multitude of treasures and there are endless opportunities for visits, to satisfy the appetite of the curious! Although we have already mentioned the Gorges du Verdon (Verdon gorges), the largest canyon in Europe, it is also possible to discover magnificent authentic villages within the area surrounding the campsite. Examples include Moustiers Sainte Marie, classified as one of the loveliest villages in France (holding the classification “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France”), Rougon, La Palud sur Verdon or indeed even Entrevaux. Provence is also famous for its superb landscapes: lavender fields, olive groves…all of the charm of the south of France is concentrated around the campsite…
