Luberon, Verdon and Mercantour
Halfway between Sisteron and Digne les Bains, L'Hippocampe enjoys an ideal location to discover the Alpes de Haute Provence department. The Alpes de Haute Provence, semi mountainous territory, dotted with rivers and gorges, has many assets to attract tourists.
A few dozen kilometres further south of l'Hippocampe, the fabulous Gorges du Verdon are a perfect example of this. It is indeed between the lakes of Sainte Croix and Esparron that the Verdon has hollowed out the mountains to clear a path to the Valley of the Durance. Deep and dramatic, these canyons are considered by many as the most beautiful canyons in Europe. It must be said that the colour of the water, a mixture of green and turquoise blue, leaves no one indifferent. Thousands of tourists descend canoeing in the Gorges du Verdon every year.
It is also in the Alpes de Haute Provence that we find the nature park of Mercantour, a natural area of great beauty, where fauna and flora cohabit in perfect harmony. Finally, the Luberon massif sets aside many surprises for tourists, through discovering it on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback...
