A haven of peace and quiet by the fabulous Sautadet waterfalls...
At the heart of the magnificent Vallée de la Cèze river valley, in the north-east of the Gard département around forty kilometres from Orange and Avignon, the Les Cascades campsite is located. This name refers to the magnificent Sautadet waterfalls, one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the region, which are located right near the campsite.
The Sautadet waterfalls are made up of a series of waterfalls and rapids along the course of the Cèze, near the village of La Roque sur Cèze. Formed by erosion, these waterfalls extend over a length of 500 metres and preserve channels and cavities, eventually meeting by forming cracks within which the river sweeps. The river water, having crossed these waterfalls and potholes sometimes has a depth of ten or so metres, then becomes calmer. Downstream of the waterfalls but still by the campsite, a natural beach enables holidaymakers to swim in clear and tranquil waters.
La Roque sur Cèze is less than a kilometre from the campsite and the waterfalls. You can go there on foot, by road or simply by taking the track which runs alongside the river. Built on a rocky peak, this village is amongst the most delightful in the country. It is dominated by the remains of a medieval château and a Romanesque chapel. At the foot of them, a stone bridge with 12 arches spans the Cèze river.
It is therefore in the immediate vicinity of these 2 exceptional tourist sites, on the borders of the Ardèche and Provence that you find this family campsite where you feel good and where the human element is at the heart of everyone’s concerns.
A campsite where the human element is at the heart of people’s concerns...
There is a wide and varied holiday offering on the campsite. It is made up of mobile homes and every holidaymaker can find what they are looking for depending on the number of accompanying guests, but also their expectations in terms of comfort and facilities. Although every accommodation unit has a minimum of 2 rooms, some have an additional room and have increased capacity for 6 to 8 people.
Entirely timber-clad, this accommodation merges with the wooded and verdant campsite setting. The shaded terrace of such units enables holidaymakers to eat their meals outside and the very top-of-the-range mobile homes even have air conditioning! A facility which is thoroughly appreciated during hot summer days, so familiar to the Gard département.
Of the 136 pitches on the campsite, scattered over its 5 hectares, nearly half of them are now occupied by mobile homes. Some 81 plots remain available to accommodate campers and their tent, caravan and camper van. These plots break down as 68 standard campsite pitches and 13 luxury pitches. These benefit from a surface area of between 100 m² and 120 m², a sewerage disposal system, a water point and an electrical connection.
Amongst the services and facilities of Les Cascades, there is an excellent restaurant, the reputation of which has long exceeded the campsite’s extent. Its chef offers Italian cooking using fresh products where everything is made on site! The bar and its terrace enable holidaymakers to make the most of a friendly atmosphere in which to relax. Additionally, to meet to their every need, the campsite has a grocery, a laundry, a children’s games area, a children’s club, a pétanque ground and a superb swimming pool. Heated throughout the entire season, this swimming pool is perfect for relaxing. A multitude of shaded sunloungers are set up around the pool.
A unique location to use as a base for touring around the Gard...
Below the waterfalls, a natural beach is also directly accessible from the campsite, enabling children to have fun in the water, whilst parents can have a real sunbathe!
Although the location is favourable to relaxation and idleness, the geographical situation of the campsite enables its use as a base for touring around the entire region and holidaymakers can therefore rapidly go to major tourist sites within the surroundings. La Vallée de la Cèze river valley has numerous must-see sights, amongst which there are a multitude of character villages. Besides La Roque sur Cèze, previously mentioned, we can speak of Barjac, a genuine Renaissance setting, Montclus, a medieval village nestling within the meanders of the Cèze, Lussan, perched on a rocky peak, Goudargues, of which the picturesque alleyways are cooled by a multitude of channelled water sources, and other attractions.
Hewn over the centuries by the waters of the Aiguillon, a tributary of the Cèze, the trails of Lussan each summer accommodate a multitude of hikers. A panoramic viewpoint overlooks the riverbed of the water course, which frequently becomes dry, and enables you to observe superb natural basins and other potholes!
Lastly, during the course of a stay at the Les Cascades campsite, holidaymakers can discover the famous Pont du Gard, Nîmes’s Roman amphitheatre and the Grotte de la Cocalière (a Jurassic network of caves, rock formations and pools). Also on offer are the Palais des Papes (the 14th century temporary Vatican) in Avignon, the Fort Saint André (a medieval fortress), the Palais Ducal d’Uzès (an 11th to 18th century château) and other local sights.
